4-H and Youth
4-H, It's for Everyone!

4-H club work has something for everyone, there are more than 130 projects from which to choose! Membership in Pend Oreille County clubs is open to children ages 5 through 19. Traditional clubs are organized and managed by volunteer adult leaders who work with the WSU County Extension Office to teach life skills education through 4-H project work. Learning life skills helps club members become competent, contributing adults. The most popular projects in Pend Oreille are horses, swine, goats, photography, and arts & crafts.

Clubs are located in all parts of the county make membership convenient. Enrollment in 4-H occurs annually from October 1 through September 30. The results of 4-H project work are frequently seen at the county fair in August.

If you are interested in forming a new 4-H club, or would like additional information on 4-H programs, please contact Carla Pogson at carla.pogson@wsu.edu or call the Extension Office at 509-447-2401.

Know Your Government Project

"DECISION 2012"

The conference focuses on Elections and Party Platforms; won't that be timely in an election year. The dates are February 18th-21st, 2012. Delegates attending the conference will be part of the 4-H KYG Party and will be participating in the 4-H KYG Political Convention. At the political convention, delegates will debate planks submitted in the form of resolutions from each county to be included in the 4-H party platform. Delegates will learn about county candidates in order to elect a 4-H KYG party candidate that they feel best represents the platform. Delegates will share the final platform with legislators at the Legislative Breakfast and elect the KYG candidate after the Legislative Breakfast. This will be another very exciting project to attend!!

ATTEND WASHINGTON STATE 4-H LEADERS’ FORUM, October 14-16th, in Ellensburg. For information and registration go to http://4h.wsu.edu/conferences/Forum/index.htm This event is for YOU, 4-H volunteers, teens and faculty/staff, which includes KYG County Coordinators and Chaperones. There will be three workshops especially designed to help you prepare for your KYG civic adventure. They are all offered on Saturday, October 15. They include:

Parli Pro training: teaching you the basics of parliamentary procedure so you can stay ahead of the youth

Session 1 9:15 – 10:30AM

KYG Orientation: the 2012 curriculum will be introduced and explained to help you successfully prepare the teens to attend the conference in Olympia

Session 2&3 10:45 – Noon, 1:45 – 3:00PM

Life skills chaperoning: this pilot program is for any county who wants to see their teens develop life skills through the KYG experience. As coordinator or chaperone of your county delegation, by adding intention life skill focus to your county meetings, your teens will increase their skill development and application. This is a voluntary opportunity but well worth it and you will be given all you need to facilitate.

Session 4 3:15 – 4:30PM
