Part of the WSU County Extension mission is to help people improve their economic status and quality of life. We sponsor workshops and events that teach how to develop or expand quality hobbies, skills, and talents into money-making businesses.

WSU/Pend Oreille County Extension has been a major partner in the establishment of the annual Pend Oreille Valley Lavender Festival for tourism and entrepreneurial development. The creation of the festival meets WSU's programming goal #2 "To create and sustain businesses, jobs, and economic vitality of Washington." For more information on the Lavender Festival
