Food $ense

Food $ense Nutrition Education is a Federally-funded grant, administered by Washington State University through Pend Oreille County Extension.  It's mission is to deliver sound nutrition information to underserved populations in Pend Oreille County.

Food $ense in the Schools

Food $ense Educators provide high quality, educational and fun nutrition classes. Each school site has a community garden and staff of volunteers and students to add to the curriculum features of the program. Students are encouraged to try fresh, new foods as well as understand the nutritional qualities they offer. Students always look forward to seeing the Food $ense Educators and we work hard at making the curriculum fun and new. Our state approved curriculum provides ongoing learning from 1st grade through 11th grade that is matched to Washington State Learning Objectives. This helps us to work with the local School Districts in a professional manner that gives our teachers the confidence that students are meeting state objectives. Food $ense is offered in the Newport, Cusick, and Selkirk school districts as well as at the Kalispel Tribe of Indians Reservation.
